“But the most significant derivation from the meaning of as ‘water’ is the concept of people who have gathered near a body of water to grow rice for one another, and founding a stable community, sharing rain and drought, plenty and famine, peace and war: from ‘water,’ its basic meaning, has come to designate ‘the homeland, the country, the nation.’ It is in this ultimate exception that the monosyllable nuoc reverberates throught the deepest and farthest recesses of the Vietnamese collective unconscious and stirs there the most potent feelings. The nation’s fateful course, marked by ups and downs, is figuratively rendered as a ‘tide of water’ (van nuoc) with its ebb and flow. The highest virtue demanded of a Vietnamese is that he or she ‘love the nuoc‘ (yeu nuoc).” –Huynh Sanh Thong (no relation)

The Apple Macbook Pros of Nail Clippers in Vietnam

Photo

In observance of my toenails and fingernails getting rather gnarly, I hip-hopped out of bed this morning in search of toenail and fingernail clippers.

My local 24/24 did not carry them unfortunately, although I do believe select ones, perhaps in the locations with more foot traffic, carry them.

These babies have the clunk, the build quality, the near-matte finish of Macbook Pros. I am not an expert on materials, but my gut is telling me these nail clippers are made of aluminum.

Good design, when it comes to functionality, just works. You don’t have to think about how to use it, you don’t have to struggle to use it, you just use it, it works and you get your task done. That is good design.

These nail clippers and eyebrow scissors (I use it as a nose hair trimmer) are well designed.

Prices: Small nail clippers: 27.000 VND
Eyebrow scissors: 48.000 VND
I left the big nail clipper package at home but the price is somewhere in between the two, but of course. 54C XVNT (Xo Viet Nghe Tinh), P.19, Q. Binh Thanh, HCMC
