Making Sense of the Social (Web) Networks I Use by Breaking It Down
Making Sense of the Social (Web) Networks I Use by Breaking It Down:
Twitter (or Mimo in Vietnam) is where I go
a. to post/read interesting quotes/articles/information
b. to ask/discover public questions and seek/provide public answers, especially as it pertains to living in Vietnam (sorry Quora)
c. to plug-in to any socials/events going on in my proximity
d. discover interesting opportunities
Linkedin is where I go
a. to post up my resume
b. to look for jobs and connect with people who can hook it up with jobs
c. to help develop business (mutually)
d. to discover interesting opportunities
Posterous (Wordpress/Tumblr for the majority of others) is where I go
a. to blog (to practice writing)
b. to connect with others through my writing
c. to discover interesting opportunities
Gmail (and how I’m seeing Google+) is where I go
a. to talk privately (and cuss), usually about the controversial with those closest to me
b. to share articles/links/information and discuss them with a smaller/more trusted group of people
c. to ask more private/confidential questions and seek private/confidential answers
d. to discover interesting opportunities
Facebook is where I go
a. when it rains, I am lonely and don’t want to leave the house
b. to see what everyone is up to/what people are talking about
c. to find out more about the person I saw at the club/cafe/restaurant and arrange a meeting in hopes of developing a closer relationship
e. to seek emotional feedback from as many people as I can
f. to reach the widest audience possible
g. to discover interesting opportunities
And apparently, the main reason I use any of these Social (Web) Networks: to discover interesting opportunities
Can I cut any of them out?
Twitter: No, because I am connected to some people there more closely than I am in other networks and I find out about a lot of local happenings through it
Linkedin: No, because I can only connect to some certain people in this environment
Posterous: No, because I need a canvas to write in a long-format and share publicly
Gmail: No, because this is my direct line, outside of my cell phone number and I find out about a lot of local happenings through it
Facebook: No, because I need to see how everyone is doing and I find out about a lot of local happenings through it
